Choosing The Right Canvas Wall Tent For Your Hunting Camp

If you are in the market for a new canvas wall tent you will want to make sure you choose the right tent to fit your needs. Here are some tips to keep in mind to help you choose the right wall tent.

The wall tents that you will find on the market today are pretty much the same as they were 200 years ago. The only thing that has changed is the fabric that they are made of. Most wall tents come in either a 10 or 12 oz fabric. There is much debate between tent manufactures as to which is better, the 10 oz or the 12 oz fabric. The important thing here is to be sure that the fabric you choose is double fill with a Sunforger finish.

If you’re looking to save a little money you can buy canvas wall tents without being treated but I would suggest that you at least have your tent treated for water and mildew. Some states will not allow wall tents to be sold and shipped to you unless the tent has been treated for fire. So be sure to check with your states regulations.

If you’re going to be packing your wall tent into your hunting area you can save money by not having to buy a frame for your tent. You can just cut your poles when you reach your hunting area. You do this by cutting a ridge pole that extends the entire length of your tent and sticks out about a foot or more on the front and back of the tent and then building an A-Frame for the front and back to support the ridge pole. You then use guy wires to secure the tent.

If you will be buying an internal frame for your tent, don’t buy the entire frame. Buy just the frame kit only. This will save not only the cost of the frame; it will save on shipping costs as well. You can go to just about any hardware store and buy the galvanized poles yourself saving a good amount of money.

One of the most important things to remember is to not get a canvas wall tent that will be too small for your needs. Decide on the tent that you think will be just right for what you want and then buy the next size up from there. The biggest complaint you hear from someone after using their tent for the first time is that they wish that they had gotten a tent that was a little bigger.
